Expect the Unexpected

Do you like it when people behave unexpectedly? Sometimes. But mostly not.

While unexpected events can bring new opportunities, the price is a disruption of routine and an expenditure of energy to readjust to a new reality.

April brings us unexpected events. Depend on it. And here is why.

Mercury goes retrograde April 9 (until May 3). Venus already is in retrograde (until April 15), as is Jupiter for even longer. And then on April 5 Saturn begins its period of retrogression.

This means that from April 9 to April 15, four freaking planets are retrograde.

Now it doesn’t mean that bad things will happen, but different things may happen than you expected.

Many of us know the effects of a Mercury retrograde since it happens 3 or 4 times a year. Communication goes awry, electronic devices behave mysteriously, trips are sidetracked or we end up somewhere different than we planned.

These things happen because when a planet is in retrograde, it will act out of character. The planet gives results that we would not normally expect from it. For example, Mercury is the master of communication, travel, computers, written agreements and so on. But when it is retrograde, it tends to give unexpected results in all those areas.

We think that the unexpected results are bad because it is not what we expected or “wanted.”

Yet sometimes the detours bring new opportunities, if we recognize them as such.

But now we have four planets acting out of character and thus bringing different results into our lives for a bit. Venus is having fun with our relationships, Jupiter is messing with our spiritual path, and Saturn… well, Saturn is busy thinking up new lessons to teach us patience.

What all this means is that if we are to truly enjoy this month, we need to be flexible, release the need to tightly control our outcomes, and look for lemonade when we think we are being bombarded by lemons.

There are silver linings in the April clouds that bring showers – like May flowers.

More so than ever, this is the month to meditate and to chill. Go with the flow or you will have to roll with the punches.

The planets are always teaching us important life lessons, and the lesson during this month of retrogrades is just what Mick Jagger told us in 1969;

“You can’t always get what you want

You can’t always get what you want

You can’t always get what you want

But if you try sometimes, well, you just might find

You get what you need”
