What Sign is Your Chakra in Vedic Astrology
What Sign Is Your Chakra?
I admit that I am somewhat embarrassed by the title of this article.
On the surface, it seems to be extra “woo-woo” and a superficial ploy to get your attention.
Guilty as charged.
Yet there is a long-standing tradition in Vedic astrology (or Jyotish) and the ancient practice of Yoga that ties both the signs of the zodiac and the chakras together – and even more interesting, a specific planet that is associated with each chakra.
The chakra system is where astrology and yoga truly meet and is worth exploring on many levels.
There are 12 signs of the zodiac and each sign has a planet associated with that sign as its “ruler.” The Sun rules Leo and the Moon rules Cancer for example.
The other 5 major planets in Vedic astrology rule two signs each as follows:
Mercury – Gemini and Virgo
Venus – Taurus and Libra
Mars – Aries and Scorpio
Jupiter – Pisces and Sagittarius
Saturn – Aquarius and Capricorn
The majority of Vedic astrologers over hundreds of years have associated the planets with the chakras as follows:
Sun and Moon – Sixth Chakra
Mercury – Fifth Chakra
Venus – Fourth Chakra
Mars – Third Chakra
Jupiter – Second Chakra
Saturn – First Chakra
Notice that the Sun and Moon are the two luminaries, the givers of light, and their association with the sixth chakra (or third eye) corresponds with the right eye (Sun) and left eye (Moon). Consequently, the Sun and Moon are the planets for the sixth chakra which own the signs of Leo and Cancer respectively.
Moving outward from the Sun, we have Mercury (ruler of Gemini and Virgo) associated with the throat or fifth chakra.
Next is Venus (Taurus, Libra) for the heart chakra, then Mars (Aries, Scorpio) for the third chakra, Jupiter (Sagittarius and Pisces) for the second chakra, and finally Saturn (Aquarius, Capricorn), for the first or root chakra.
Now why is this helpful? With these correspondences, we now have a way to work with chakras through the planets and understand how the planets that occupy signs in your personal birth chart impact your chakras!
Jupiter in Cancer in your birth chart would bring that sense of expansion of Jupiter to the sixth chakra (third eye) to awaken a strong intuition.
Saturn in the sign of Taurus or Libra in a birth chart may indicate an ability to love and connect through the fourth chakra that comes from the karma yoga represented by Saturn.
Many healing possibilities open up now with this relationship between signs, planets and chakras such as how to balance the chakras by working with the various planetary energies that affect them, and specifically how you can use mantras, colors, herbs, and gemstones associated with the planets to affect the energy centers of the body.
The Vedic practices of yoga, astrology and ayurveda specifically use the gemstones and crystals associated with the planets for therapy, healing and meditation.
